Portland, Oregon, April 4, 2025 – In a monumental step forward for conservation and inclusivity, Love Is King (LIK) and Alaska Wilderness League (AWL) are taking their fight for permanent protections of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to Capitol Hill. This collaboration builds upon years of shared commitment to amplifying diverse voices and safeguarding one of America’s most irreplaceable landscapes.
Through Operation ROAM—a groundbreaking initiative by Love Is King—advocates from across the nation have journeyed into the Arctic Refuge. There, they’ve forged a deep connection with its pristine beauty, listened to the wisdom of the Gwich’in people, and witnessed the urgent need to protect this unparalleled wilderness from environmental threats.
At the heart of this work is Love Is King’s founder, Chad Brown, a conservation leader, military veteran, and Alaska Wilderness League board member. Brown and his organization are transforming the outdoor world by breaking down barriers and ensuring that Black, Indigenous, and all people of color can lead the charge in protecting wild spaces.
This partnership isn’t just about protecting land. It’s about building an equitable future where every voice is heard and valued,” said Chad Brown.
Next week, LIK and AWL will meet with lawmakers, urging them to take decisive action to permanently protect the Arctic Refuge from destructive development. This historic fly-in represents a beacon of hope for conservationists and advocates of equity, underscoring the power of diverse leadership in shaping the future of public lands.
This initiative is made possible with generous support from the John McComb Memorial Fund, which fuels the collaborative efforts of Alaska Wilderness League and Love Is King.
Together, we can ensure that this invaluable refuge remains protected for generations to come.
