Portland Stands With the Gwich’in: Community Hearing to Protect the Arctic Refuge

The Gwich’in Nation is coming into our city, and Portland is not meeting them with silence. We’re meeting them with presence, with community, and with the kind of solidarity that cannot be shaken.

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is under threat once again. For the Gwich’in people, this is not an abstract policy debate — it is a fight for culture, food security, identity, and survival. The land is sacred. The stories are sacred. The people are sacred. And when the Gwich’in speak, we listen.

On Thursday, March 26, Love Is King and Alaska Wilderness League will host a Portland Community Hearing — a space for truth‑telling, testimony, and collective courage. This is a moment for our city to show up with heart and conviction.
