Operation ROAM:

Revolutionizing Advocacy and Outdoor Leadership

Love is King understands that the pursuit of justice and the fight for our environment are inseparable. We know that real change is sparked by cultural awareness, empathy, knowledge and community engagement, It takes an optimistic and relentless team of advocates to pressures law makers, influences policy and mobilize their communities from town halls to the halls of congress.

Operation ROAM (Rapid Ongoing Advance Missions) is transformational, it’s often compared to an experiential bootcamp, that provides a once in a lifetime opportunity for leaders to learn about and participate in dialogue around these critical environmental, social, and cultural issues.

Operation ROAM sparks a radical shift in thoughtful self-examination and sparks radical new thinking about environmental preservation, our climate and humanity. Our teams leverage that transformational experience along with their professional backgrounds to lead the charge of advocacy and activism. This powerful synthesis of personal, professional and societal transformation is our mission.

Love is King and Operation ROAM bridges the gap between environmental literacy and environmental ignorance. Our collaborative LIK network advances policy advocacy and legal action that accelerates conservation, improve community prosperity, restore biodiversity and secure environmental stability

Soul River Inc. Deployments

Soul River Inc. brings together youth and veterans for transformative multi‑day expeditions across national wild landscapes. What defines a deployment is the urgent call to stand in wild spaces under threat—whether the risk involves wildlife, public lands, freshwater ecosystems, or Indigenous communities. When a threat is identified, that place becomes our mission. We step into these ground‑zero environments with youth and veterans so they can witness the issues firsthand, learn directly from the land and its people, and emerge as stronger stewards and advocates ready to protect what matters.

These journeys create a powerful shared purpose: veterans step into the role of mentors and teachers, while youth engage in healing, discovery, and hands‑on learning in nature’s most authentic classroom.

Each deployment blends outdoor skill‑building with an experiential curriculum rooted in climate awareness, fly fishing, camping, backpacking, adventure travel, advocacy, leadership, and science. Participants learn directly from local conservation partners, gaining insight into environmental challenges, community advocacy, and pathways to future careers in stewardship and conservation.

This work strengthens and uplifts communities by forging deep connections—between young people and veterans, between individuals and their sense of purpose, and between all participants and the natural world. The expeditions open doors to profound personal growth, empowering youth to step into leadership and giving veterans renewed purpose through service and mentorship.

Program impact is measured through pre‑ and post‑experience surveys that capture shifts in knowledge, behavior, and how participants share what they’ve learned. Outcomes include internships, advocacy projects, and leadership opportunities for youth. Veterans often report meaningful changes as well—feeling valued, connected, and part of something larger than themselves.

The Balance of Democracy and the Roots of Outdoor Fear

The Balance of Democracy and the Roots of Outdoor Fear is a three‑part community workshop series designed to deepen understanding, spark dialogue, and build collective power around equity in outdoor spaces. Led by Love Is King facilitators and Dr. Lisa, the series explores how history, psychology, and community storytelling intersect to shape who feels safe, welcome, and free in nature. Each session builds toward a shared vision of an outdoor democracy where all people—especially communities of color—can experience belonging, joy, and liberation on public lands.

Event 1 — The Roots of Outdoor Fear

This opening session invites community members, particularly people of color and allies, to examine the historical and generational forces that have shaped fear in outdoor spaces. Through guided dialogue, participants explore how exclusion, racialized violence, and cultural memory continue to influence who feels safe in nature today. By understanding these roots, the group begins to uncover the gap between democratic ideals and lived experiences on public lands.

Event 2 — The Psychology of Safety and Threat

This session focuses on the mental and emotional dimensions of outdoor fear. Dr. Lisa leads a conversation on how the brain encodes threat, how trauma is transmitted across generations, and why many people fear people—not nature—when entering outdoor spaces. Participants build emotional literacy and shared understanding as a foundation for creating safer, more inclusive outdoor environments.

Event 3 — Reclaiming Belonging and Democracy in the Outdoors

The final gathering centers on community storytelling, collective visioning, and strategies for reclaiming agency in outdoor spaces. Participants imagine what true freedom, safety, and belonging could look like in Oregon’s natural landscapes. Facilitated by Love Is King leaders and Dr. Lisa, the session transforms insight into action and reinforces the democratic principle that public spaces must be accessible and welcoming to all.
